Welche Rolle können Architektur und Architekten im 21. Jahrhundert spielen? Making Futures sind: Markus Bader, Juan Chacón, George Kafka, Anna Kokalanova, Christof Mayer, Tatjana Schneider, Rosario TaleviWhat role might architecture-and the architect-play in the twenty-first century? What possibilities arise when we view architecture as a form of agency rather than as a collection of objects? What spatial dynamics emerge when we turn our practices away from the dictates of the neoliberal era with its obsession with growth and skimming off profit? Since 2018, Making Futures has sought ways to answer these questions through practice-based research across disciplines, institutions, and territories. In schools, workshops, and other educational formats, Making Futures has explored modes of city-making based around diverse forms of knowledge exchange: assembling, constructing, baking, recycling, dancing andmore. The Making Futures publication lays outlines the experiences of this action research and the ideas it urges. It proposes a refreshed understanding of architectural practice as a collective process and as a resource.Making Futures is a practice-based research project initiated in 2018 as a collaboration between raumlabor and the Berlin University of the Arts (UdK).Making Futures is: Markus Bader, Juan Chacón, George Kafka, Anna Kokalanova, Christof Mayer, Tatjana Schneider, Rosario Talevi

This book critically explores the relationship between mobility patterns, transport provision and urban development in East African cities. Bringing together contributions on the futures of mobility in urban East Africa, the chapters examine transport provision, mobility patterns, location-specific modes of transport and transformative factors for transport and mobility in the rapidly urbanising region. The book outlines different mobility needs to be addressed in transport planning to serve and shape the respective cities and examines the decision-making process in transport planning and the level of accountability to the public. The contributors show the dialectic between innovation in transport/mobility and urban development under rapid urbanisation and discusses how to practically integrate mobility and transport provision into urban development. This book will be of interest to scholars in urban planning, transport planning, transport geography, social sciences and African studies.

A highly-detailed, practical analysis of fixed income management The Advanced Fixed Income and Derivatives Management Guide provides a completely novel framework for analysis of fixed income securities and portfolio management, with over 700 useful equations. The most detailed analysis of inflation linked and corporate securities and bond options analysis available;, this book features numerous practical examples that can be used for creating alpha transfer to any fixed income portfolio. With a framework that unifies back office operations, such as risk management and portfolio management in a consistent way, readers will be able to better manage all sectors of fixed income, including bonds, mortgages, credits, and currencies, and their respective derivatives, including bond and interest rate futures and options, callable bonds, credit default swaps, interest rate swaps, swaptions and inflation swaps. Coverage includes never-before-seen detail on topics including recovery value, partial yields, arbitrage, and more, and the companion website features downloadable worksheets that can be used for measuring the risks of securities based on the term structure models. Many theoretical models of the Term Structure of Interest Rates (TSIR) lack the accuracy to be used by market practitioners, and the most popular models are not mathematically stable. This book helps readers develop stable and accurate TSIR for all fundamental rates, enabling analysis of even the most complex securities or cash flow structure. The components of the TSIR are almost identical to the modes of fluctuations of interest rates and represent the language with which the markets speak. * Examine unique arbitrage, risk measurement, performance attribution, and replication of bond futures * Learn to estimate recovery value from market data, and the impact of recovery value on risks * Gain deeper insight into partial yields, product design, and portfolio construction * Discover the proof that corporate bonds cannot follow efficient market hypothesis This useful guide provides a framework for systematic and consistent management of all global fixed income assets based on the term structure of rates. Practitioners seeking a more thorough management system will find solutions in The Advanced Fixed Income and Derivatives Management Guide.

Hassan, K: Islamic Capital Markets

The standardization of Islamic financial products is currently evolving, both for Islamic derivatives & hedging methods and for Islamic bonds (Sukuk) and the process of standardization is expected to start soon also for other Islamic instruments. Islamic capital markets, and Islamic finance in general, is experiencing global rapid growth and is currently receiving more consideration also by non-Islamic investors. Islamic Finance is based on the prohibition of interest ('Riba'), excessive uncertaintly ('Gharar') and gambling ('Maysir' or 'Qimar'). From these foundations, conventional financial products, such as interest-bearing instruments, options, forwards, futures, and insurances, as well as conventional practices like short-selling and leveraging, are not compliant with Islamic law ('Shariah'). Nevertheless, the Islamic finance industry has undertaken considerable efforts to create products and solutions of the same value, in many instances by replicating conventional structures in a Shariah-compliant manner. This has led to discussions between scholars and practitioners, as some scholars regard specific replication techniques merely as ploys and ruses. While no definite answer can be given yet concerning the question of Shariah-compliance for every single instrument, some trends are emerging in this dynamic market. Islamic derivative products are essential for asset management and risk management in any Islamic context, and provide answers to many of the investors' needs. This book covers all Islamic derivatives and structured products including state of the art Islamic short-selling methods used by hedge funds and gives a comprehensive overview of current Islamic capital markets. It takes a practical approach addressing practical issues in risk management and investing for both Islamic and non-Islamic readers. .Contents A. Introduction B. Islamic capital market instruments 1. Changing of Knowledge in Composition

Lance Massey and Richard Gebhardt offer in this collection many signs that composition again faces a moment of precariousness, even as it did in the 1980sthe years of the great divorce from literary studies. The contours of writing in the university again are rapidly changing, making the objects of scholarship in composition again unstable. Composition is poised to move not from modern to postmodern but from process to postprocess, from a service-oriented 'field' to a research-driven 'discipline.' Some would say we are already there. Momentum is building to replace 'composition' and the pedagogical imperative long implied in that term with a 'writing studies' model devoted to the study of composition as a fundamental tool of, and force within, all areas of human activity.Appropriately, contributors here use Stephen M. North's 1987 book The Making of Knowledge in Composition to frame and background their discussion, as they look at both the present state of the field and its potential futures. As in North's volume, The Changing of Knowledge in Composition describes a body of research and pedagogy brimming with conflicting claims, methodologies, and politics, and with little consensus regarding the proper subjects and modes of inquiry. The deep ambivalence within the field itself is evident in this collection. Contributors here envision composition both as retaining its commitment to broad-based, generalized writing instruction and as heading toward content-based vertical writing programs in departments and programs of writing studies. They both challenge and affirm composition's pedagogical heritage. And they sound both sanguine and pessimistic notes about composition's future.

Transportation Planning the Future

Current trends in transport, particularly the rise in CO_2 emissions, indicate that major changes in technology, public policy and individual behaviour are necessary to make the transport system more compatible with environmental sustainability. What then are the possible futures for sustainable systems of transport? In this book future scenarios are constructed on the basis of the recently developed 'spider model'. This model constructs an evaluation framework - based along spatial, institutional, economic and socio-psychological axes - which visualises the core factors that influence transport systems. These factors can operate either separately or in combination - this interaction creates scenarios which range from market-oriented to regulatory systems, and from individual to collective modes of transport. Drawing on the work of a range of transport analysts, the book suggests that the current trend away from sustainability and collective systems is likely to continue, but when sound policies are introduced, a sustainable transport system becomes a feasible option.
